For thousands of years prior to contact with the
Europeans, First Peoples survived and thrived
by living off the land and using its resources
to make food, clothing, tools and shelter.

Each community established their ways of governing,
celebrating their culture and expressing their
                                religious beliefs.

Even nomadic tribes held traditional territories
that supported their connection with the environment
but engaged in trade with other First Nation communities
                                far and wide.
